Introduction

Introduction to Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and it doesn’t discriminate. While some forms are less aggressive, others can spread quickly if not addressed.

Early detection and treatment are highly effective, especially when handled by skilled specialists. At A New You Plastic Surgery in Chicago, Dr. Samir Shah and Dr. Rajendra Shah offer expert diagnosis and removal of skin cancers, combining precision with an aesthetic touch to preserve your health and your appearance.

What is a Skin Cancer Treatment?

Skin cancer treatment involves the surgical removal of cancerous or precancerous lesions from the skin. These may include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or melanoma.

At A New You Plastic Surgery, the most common approach is excision—a precise technique that removes the cancerous tissue while minimizing the impact on the surrounding healthy skin. When needed, reconstructive techniques are also used to help maintain the natural contour and function of the treated area.

Who Are the Best Candidates For a Skin Cancer Treatment?

Anyone with a suspicious lesion—especially if it’s changing in size, color, or shape, or if it bleeds, itches, or fails to heal—should get evaluated. Patients who’ve had prior skin cancers or who spend significant time outdoors are also at higher risk. A biopsy is often the first step to determine if a lesion is cancerous.

If skin cancer is confirmed, Dr. Samir Shah or Dr. Rajendra Shah will explain your treatment options and develop a personalized plan that prioritizes both health and aesthetics.

What Are the Benefits of a Skin Cancer Treatment?

The primary benefit is removing the cancer before it has the chance to grow or spread. But treatment at A New You Plastic Surgery goes beyond that. Dr. Samir Shah and Dr. Rajendra Shah use advanced suturing techniques to reduce scarring and enhance cosmetic results, so you don’t have to choose between your health and your appearance. You’ll leave your treatment knowing the lesion has been addressed properly and that you’re on the path to recovery with confidence.

What’s the First Step?

Start by scheduling a consultation at our Orland Park location. Dr. Rajendra Shah will perform a skin exam and, if necessary, take a biopsy of the area in question. Once the pathology report is back, a treatment plan will be created.

In many cases, surgical excision can be performed right in our AAAASF-accredited facility for maximum safety and convenience.

What to Expect From a Skin Cancer Treatment

The majority of skin cancer removals are performed under local anesthesia. Dr. Rajendra Shah will numb the area, remove the lesion along with a small amount of healthy tissue, and then close the wound with meticulous sutures. If needed, skin grafts or local flaps may be used for optimal closure, especially for larger lesions or those in high-visibility areas.
